Stander! I'm at a loss of words.

Okay, take a good look at the box for this DVD. Tom Jane is STANDER! Good Cop. Great Criminal. How ridiculous does this look? It looks awful. So awful that I've spent the last 6 months commenting on it - every single time I've passed it at Blockbuster. Now maybe that means that I'm a loser, but I'm pretty sure you're thinking the same thing based on the cover of the DVD.

Well, as of today I'm officially shocked. In between watching my lousy fantasy football team scores update (Team middleCoast - FYI) and trying to find some 'good' online porn, I found this link to the Top 10 movies you've never seen. I click it, cause I'm interested, and I'm a bit of a movie snob. Going through the link, and the list contains alot of the standard Independent movie fare that you'd suspect "Shallow Grave," "Kicking and Screaming," "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead," etc...., and then BOOM, number 10 on the list "Stander." I can't believe it. It sounds great, and to put it in company with these other movies I think are great... I just don't know what to think. Imagine if someone told you that "Road House," or "Ernest Goes to Camp" was a great movie? Exactly, you wouldn't know what to think.

Since my interest was officially peaked I decided I'd do a bit more research before deciding to rent the flick. Being internet-savvy and all, I went to the most delightfully inacurate, yet addictive reference site of all, wikipedia.org. Because i think the content was so jaw-droppingly awesome, here's a brief excerpt concerning Stander. Oh, and apparently the movie was based on a true story....from wikipedia.org...

"André Stander was a police Captain in the robbery and homicide division of the police in Johannesburg, South Africa who egan robbing banks in the 1970s. His father, Frans Stander, was a general in the South African Police and head of the police dog school in Pretoria. The sheer brazeness of his crimes is legendary: he would sometimes rob banks on his lunch hour, and he would often return to the scene of the crime as an investigating officer."

Don't you want to see this movie now? I'll be renting it tomorrow, and then let you know ALL about it.

Hahahahha, yes. Stander was awesome. A great period movie taking place in late 70s, early 80s South Africa. Based on a true story. I'd recommend it to anyone.

I should have been there to see it. I was not 6 months; it was 24 months that you made fun of the movie.
